6th Grade Admissions
Overview
Anderson is a K-8 school with a rising sixth grade class. However, we usually expand our class size slightly in sixth grade and we expect to have a minimum of 10 seats available for Fall 2025 for both General Education and Integrated Collaborative Teaching (ICT/SWD).
The Anderson School is a rigorous, academically accelerated public school that seeks a diverse student population and welcomes applications from motivated, hard-working students of all races, ethnic and economic backgrounds living in any of the five boroughs. Students who apply to The Anderson School should be prepared to work above grade-level if they attend the school.
In addition to General Education students, we also seek motivated, high achieving, twice-exceptional, fifth grade students who are designated as needing an ICT classroom by the DOE to fill some of our sixth grade seats for the 2025-26 school year. Twice-exceptional students at Anderson are extremely hard-workers with a strong sense of curiosity and dedication to their academics, be ferocious readers, or have an insatiable desire to delve into one or more topics, but they may need support with their executive function skills. Half of the classes in sixth, seventh, and eighth are ICT classes. (That's one ICT class in each of sixth, seventh, and eighth grades.)
All students applying to The Anderson School (general education and Integrated Collaborative Teaching/ICT) will use the DOE’s MySchools site to access the DOE's middle school application.
If your child is not enrolled in a NYC public school, you will have to contact a Family Welcome Center to be assigned a student ID.
Admissions for the 2025-2026 school year
The Anderson School is a choice on every 5th grader's middle school application in MySchools. Please be sure to rank schools in your true order of preference.
We encourage twice-exceptional ICT students to apply.
Screened* admissions will be used by the Enrollment Office to determine who is eligible for offers to The Anderson School, using students' fourth grade final report card grades in core subjects (English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies). There is no sibling priority for sixth grade admissions.
(* Visit the DOE's website for an explanation of how they conduct the screening process, towards the bottom of this linked page: https://www.schools.nyc.gov/enrollment/enroll-grade-by-grade/middle-school)
